Social Support & Companionship - The Heart of Compassion
Compassionate Companionship & Social Support
Heart of Compassion is our dedicated companionship and social support service, designed to nurture emotional well-being, friendship, and connection. Care isn’t just about physical needs—it’s about feeling valued and engaged in everyday life. Our caring companions—many of whom are also trained care assistants—spend quality time with clients, brighten their day, and help them stay socially active.
Loneliness and isolation can have a profound impact on health. Whether someone lives alone or simply misses regular social interaction, our Heart of Compassion team provides genuine friendship and support. We serve adults of all ages, from elderly individuals who enjoy reminiscing and conversation to younger adults with disabilities or illness who want a companion for activities. Inclusive and empathetic, our companions adapt to each person’s personality and interests.

Services We Provide
This service aligns with what many in healthcare call befriending or social support services. We see it as an essential part of holistic care – nurturing the emotional and mental health of our clients, not just the physical. Our staff are trained to be observant and communicative too; if they notice a client seems down or more confused than usual, they alert our nurse supervisors so we can adjust support or involve other professionals as needed.
Friendly Visits & Conversation
Simply being there to talk, listen to stories, share news, or read aloud books and newspapers. This kind of companionship can lift spirits and create meaningful bonds.
Hobbies & Activities
Engaging clients in their favourite pastimes – whether it’s doing puzzles, gardening together, arts and crafts, watching a favourite show, or going for a stroll in the park for fresh air.
Outings & Appointments
Accompanying clients on outings like visiting a friend, attending community events, going shopping, or escorting them safely to medical appointments and back home.
Meal Companionship
Sitting together during mealtimes to encourage eating and make dining a pleasant social experience, which is especially helpful if someone has lost motivation to cook or eat alone.
Respite Companionship
Giving family caregivers a break by spending time with their loved one. You can run errands, work, or rest, knowing our companion is keeping your family member safe and happy.
Our Approach
Heart of Compassion visits are flexible and personalised. Some clients enjoy a lively, activity-filled visit; others prefer a quiet, reassuring presence. We take time to match companions based on personality and interests, and we strive for consistency so that real friendships can develop. Over time, many clients come to see their companion as a trusted friend or even “extended family.”
In the Heart of Compassion, no one has to feel alone. A few hours of companionship a week can make a world of difference – bringing smiles, fostering a sense of belonging, and improving overall quality of life. If you or someone you care about could benefit from more social interaction and friendly support, our Heart of Compassion services are ready to step in.

Gentle Support, Real Relationships
This isn’t just a drop-in service — it’s the start of something meaningful. We carefully match each client with someone they feel comfortable with, creating space for real connection and easy conversation. Every visit is designed to be low-pressure and uplifting. It’s about presence, not performance — someone who shows up, listens, and truly cares.

Personalised Visits, Meaningful Moments
No two people are the same — and neither are our visits. Some clients enjoy board games, music, or outings to local shops, while others find comfort in quiet conversation or simply having someone nearby. We take time to understand what brings joy, calm, or connection to each person, shaping visits that feel familiar, enjoyable, and truly personal.

Why It Matters
Social connection is a powerful part of wellbeing — especially for those who live alone or feel disconnected. Regular companionship has been shown to lift mood, reduce anxiety, and even support cognitive health. Through Heart of Compassion, we nurture those vital human connections and remind every person we support that they matter, every day.
"The Heart of Compassion Plan is more than just care; it’s about connection. Through dedicated companionship and emotional support, we help individuals feel valued, engaged, and never alone enhancing their well-being and brightening their days."
